In this series of videos we’ll be covering the implementation of a local version of NoSQL database, Redis, in PHP. We’ll be using the following PHP extensions: Redis Redis includes functions for connection to the Redis server. The connection is achieved by a number of functions including the create, close, connect, etc. The open function opens a connection to Redis server and, in our case, returns a PHP object which represents the connection to the Redis server. The close function closes a connection opened using the open function and releases the memory occupied by the connection object. We’ll see later how these functions are used in the implementation of our script. Redis also includes several other functions related to the connection. These functions include the ping, last, len and brpop functions, among others. The ping function returns the number of items in the Redis server. The last function returns the last value saved in the Redis server. The len function returns the number of items saved in the Redis server. The brpop function selects and returns the value contained in Redis. Let’s have a look at our script, the script is going to check if there is any item in the Redis database and if there are any, it’s going to return the value. We’ll start by creating a new file called redisscript.php and add the following code: The first function is the function that will be used to open the connection to the Redis server and check the data stored in the server.
